Kazauka: Concrete Makes Me Happy

If you think that a designer needs to have a design degree, think again. Andrius is an engineer from Lithuania who’s managed to combine his formal education and profession with his creative soul. Kazauka is an accessories brand we have spoken about already. Today, we are happy to catch up with a young engineer who makes concrete wearable. Yes, he designs and makes beautiful concrete bowties.

Kazauka has just released their third collection and we caught up with a creator of the concrete bowties to hear more about his creative and personal journey.

Fashion Bloc: How is the third collection different?

Kazauka: This new collection is more playful – the texture is checked, dotted and striped, they remind of a real fabric. In a new photoshoot, I also wanted to emphasise the versatility of the concrete bowties – they can match any style and any outfit.

FB: You should know your clients by now, have you noticed any patterns or preferences?

Kazauka: Yes, I have noticed that from 11 different product types, our clients usually choose those that reminds of a classic bowtie. However, if they’re a returning customer, they would come back for a more unusual style, which is great – they liberate themselves!

FB: Do you have more female or male clients?

Kazauka: Both, however, Lithuanian women would usually buy a bowtie for their male friends, while international male customers would buy a bowtie for themselves.

FB: How did you evolve as a designer?

Kazauka: After my first bowtie collection, I produced several home design products – a swinging table lamp, book holders, a pencil case. I have understood that experimenting with concrete makes me happy and I can sometimes even surprise myself.

FB: Any plans for the future with concrete?

Kazauka: Always, I have new styles in my mind already. Moreover, I am changing my production process from the grounds. I would like to emphasise that concrete is an environmentally friendly material – if you crush your concrete bowtie (not easy, though), the concrete can be recycled to make a new bowtie or anything else.
