Last week, Polish designer Klaudia Markiewicz with her team landed in New York. It was the first time a 27-year-old visited America, the first time she showed her collection to the American media and buyers, and it was the first time she had her collection presented by black models.
Fashion Bloc: How was this experience different from the European fashion weeks?
Klaudia Markiewicz: It wasn’t much different, maybe except the models – I didn’t know that my collection would be matching so perfect with a darker skin, the girls were so beautiful! Every fashion week is different from the other, it’s really hard to compare. Every event has its own power and energy. I really fell in love with New York and Fashion Week Brooklyn people, and the atmosphere.
FB: What did you learn?
KM: I learned a lot about a good organisation and the importance communication. Four models from the fittings just didn’t show up on the day of my show but the wonderful FWBK team helped me find other girls in less than an hour! It was amazing.
FB: Did you receive any feedback about your collection?
KM: I’m still waiting for the publications but I did a lot of interviews so I hope that they will come out shortly. It was so great because after the show everyone was telling me that they loved my designs and wanted them all. it’s really nice to hear something like that about your work.
FB: Did you make new contacts?
KM: I’m in touch with few showrooms from NY, so I hope it would bring some nice things in the future
FB: Was this your first time in New York?
KM: Yes, and it was an amazing experience! My first time but I hope not the last. Thank you so much for the opportunity to show my collection there and making my dreams come true.
FB: What did you like most about New York?
KM: Definitely the people. They are so friendly, kind and helpful. It’s something really different from Europe. I also fell in love with the atmosphere of NYC. it’s something really hard to describe – the colours, the lights, the sounds – one perfect inspiration!
