In our designer diaries series, we introduce new work and projects by Fashion Bloc designers from the first-person point of view. Yes, a designer will share their inspirations and emotions, and even motivation behind their collections. How about that?
A story by Melita, Mellow by Melita Rus
Until quite recently I was a true rebel fighting against tradition and stereotypes, academic canons and traditional usage of raw materials. It has changed. My new collection is a mild rebellion against myself. I have decided to challenge my creative philosophy and try the traditional jewellery approach. The story goes like this.
I had no idea how to laminate, polarise and burn precious metals but I decided to indulge in a learning experience and I befriended Sterling Silver. The learning curve was steep and quite literally painful. The reward of learning a new skill and acting against your stubborn old self is much worth it.
After three weeks of intensive labour, I gave birth to a new Mellow collection symbolically called Oldnewme’18. No different to my previous collections, this collection is a reflection of me. It represents a personal and creative maturity. They say people don’t change they just grow. This also happened to my creative maturity – it’s the same message, just a slightly different messenger. I will keep aiming to embody my personal philosophy of the world into my creations. The world has no limits – the desire to become a part of different cultures and to give back, not just take in, is so strong that we don’t have to be a part of one particular tribe. Even if beauty has a number on it, it still doesn’t change anything – the truth lies in your beliefs, which is a basis for your life journey. I aim to help everyone to expand their imagination absorbing all your experiences at once and creating a unique personality that you are. Mellow jewellery aims to embody and lock-in all individual memories, our personal journeys mapping our life. Whether it’s made of silver, cement, metal, and screws – the message is the same – your individual journey is locked inside.
