With the democratisation of London Fashion Week – quite a few shows are ticketed and open to the public – The Business of Fashion has invited their fashion community to one of their events – a presentation of the BoF China Prize winner Caroline Hu’s SS2020 collection.
The magical set-up at the Serpentine Galleries on the last day of LFW2020 smelled of wild flowers and designer perfume. Caroline Hu planted her models in the real plants and weeds surrounded by flowers and London fashion elite. “Impressions of Love” is a magical and romantic collection, an illustration of impeccable craftsmanship and, according to the designer, commercially viable art in the form of fashion.
Caroline Hu is supported and presented at the LFW by the BoF China Prize, sponsored by the Chinese fashion conglomerate Yu Holdings. A young heiress-turned-fashion investor and patron Wendy Yu, a woman behind You Holdings, has become one of the most prominent figures at London Fashion Week. She supports and invests in both, European designers (Marry Katrantzou), helping them reach China market; and Chinese designers, helping them access European customers.
Winning a BoF China Prize, Caroline Hu received a $100,000 cash prize, official slot at London Fashion Week and ongoing industry mentorship.
Just like that, endorsed (and cash injected) by the industry elite, a young designer’s show has become a ‘must-see’ amid the Fashion Week heat. From fashion editors to Chinese influencers, Caroline Hu is a talk of the town, at least for today.
